COMPASS at International Astronautical Congress 2021

The COMPASS group participated to the 72nd International Astronautical Congress this October in Dubai, UAE.

The COMPASS members participating contributed to the technical programme of the congress with several presentation on topics such as space debris, collision avoidance, asteroid ejecta dynamics, formation flying and active debris removal, and sustainability of space. The COMPASS group participated to the 8th European Conference on Space Debris organised by ESA/ESOC on 20-23 April 2021. The conference, held every four years, represents the largest gathering of researchers and professional working on space debris related activities and topics. The COMPASS group contributed with 4 oral presentations and 3 posters.

New analytical model for the design of collision avoidance manoeuvres in space

Satellite operators need increasingly powerful tools for collision avoidance manoeuvre (CAM) design, to deal with the growing number of objects in space. A recent open access publication by Juan Luis Gonzalo, Camilla Colombo, and Pierluigi Di Lizia proposes an analytical formulation for CAMs allowing to maximize deviation or minimize collision probability. From Italy to CyberSpace: COMPASS joins the 71 International Astronautical Congress

In-person meetings have become a rare luxury due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why the International Astronautical Federation has made the 71st International Astronautical Congress – The CyberSpace Edition their first fully online congress. On 12-14 October more than 10,000 attendees joined all over the world to share the latest space developments. The COMPASS team contributed with 5 papers and videolectures.
