Twice as fast and ten times more precise planetary protection compliance analysis? KS variables ensure so, learn how in the new Open Access paper by Alessandro Masat, Matteo Romano and Camilla Colombo. See the paper here.
Wanna know more about the newest developments in astrodynamics software? ESA’s 8th International Conference of Astrodynamics Tools and Techniques is the place for you! Check out the work of our Alessandro Masat, about planetary protection and long-term high-fidelity orbital propagation, and Matteo Romano, about the reconstruction of in-orbit collisions based on newly detected fragmentations.
The COMPASS team attended the 7th IAA Planetary Defense Conference from 26th to 30th April 2021, held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Check out the presented e-poster about the Gravitational-magnetic tug, an investigation on combined gravitational and magnetic interaction for asteroid deflection.
The use of advanced Monte Carlo sampling methods for estimating the probability of asteroid impacts is discussed in a paper authored by Matteo Romano and Camilla Colombo from the COMPASS team and Matteo Losacco and Pierluigi Di Lizia from PoliMi. The publication is accessible in open access. Check it out!
Matteo Romano successfully defended his PhD thesis “Orbit propagation and uncertainty modelling for planetary protection compliance verification” at Politecnico di Milano, to be awarded the degree of Doctor.
Giacomo Borelli, Alessandro Masat and Matteo Nicoli presented their master thesis work developed within the COMPASS group at the XXV International Congress of the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA) held at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
The interest for planetary protection doesn’t reach only space agencies and space enthusiast. The COMPASS group is doing research to make designing interplanetary missions more compliant to regulations.
