COMPASS at the Aerospace Europe Conference 2021
How can we predict the evolution of millions of space debris under orbital perturbations? Check out the latest conference paper at the Aerospace Europe Conference 2021 by our Lorenzo Giudici.

The COMPASS group participated to the 72nd International Astronautical Congress this October in Dubai, UAE.
The COMPASS members participating contributed to the technical programme of the congress with several presentation on topics such as space debris, collision avoidance, asteroid ejecta dynamics, formation flying and active debris removal, and sustainability of space. For more info on the research works presented at the congress visit our LinkedIn page.
Our Ph.D. candidate Giacomo Borelli has been awarded one of the ASI scholarships to participate to the 72nd International Astronautical Congress (IAC) and the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) in Dubai this October.
Our Eduardo Maria Polli is participating in the Stardust-R Global Virtual Workshop II, presenting a new method for assessing the collision probability for an injecting or de-orbiting satellite that has to pass through a satellite constellation.
Wanna know more about the newest developments in astrodynamics software? ESA’s 8th International Conference of Astrodynamics Tools and Techniques is the place for you! Check out the work of our Alessandro Masat, about planetary protection and long-term high-fidelity orbital propagation, and Matteo Romano, about the reconstruction of in-orbit collisions based on newly detected fragmentations.
The long-delayed 11th International ESA Conference on Guidance, Navigation & Control Systems is finally here, in a pandemics-friendly virtual format. Our Juan Luis Gonzalo is taking part of the conversation, presenting new algorithms for the efficient modelling of low-thrust collision avoidance manoeuvres, with view to on-board applications.
The COMPASS team attended the 16th International Conference on Space Operations, held virtually 3-5 May, 2021. Check out the presentations by Camilla Colombo, Francesca Scala, Mirko Trisolini and Matteo Romano at https://spaceops2021.org.
The COMPASS team attended the 7th IAA Planetary Defense Conference from 26th to 30th April 2021, held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Check out the presented e-poster about the Gravitational-magnetic tug, an investigation on combined gravitational and magnetic interaction for asteroid deflection.
The COMPASS team attended the 31st AAS/AIAA Virtual Space Flight Mechanics Meeting from 1st to 3rd February 2021. COMPASS members presented their latest developments in the fields of astrodynamics and orbital mechanics, with particular focus on mission design and trajectory optimization.
In-person meetings have become a rare luxury due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That is why the International Astronautical Federation has made the 71st International Astronautical Congress – The CyberSpace Edition their first fully online congress. On 12-14 October more than 10,000 attendees joined all over the world to share the latest space developments. The COMPASS team contributed with 5 papers and videolectures.
