The COMPASS team took part in the 2019 European Research and Innovation Days, celebrated in Brussels on 24-26 September. Together with other ERC-funded projects, we met stakeholders and policymakers to stress the importance of scientific research for Europe’s future.
Giacomo Borelli, Alessandro Masat and Matteo Nicoli presented their master thesis work developed within the COMPASS group at the XXV International Congress of the Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIDAA) held at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
Davide Menzio of the COMPASS team is attending the AAS/AIAA Astrodynamics Specialist Conference to present his work on the spatial flyby map performed at JPL under the supervision of Dr. Stefano Campagnola.
Simeng Huang and Lincheng Li gave a Chinese Teenager Popular Science Seminar on “An Overview of Space Missions”, stimulating teenager’s interest in space science.
Narcís Miguel from the COMPASS team participated in the 5th International Symposium on Solar Sailing (ISSS2019).
The COMPASS team attended the 10th International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with recent developments on low-thrust station-keeping for satellite constellation at inclined geosynchronous orbits.
Another academic year came and went. Time really flies, so what better location for the annual reunion of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology than the Aero Club Como? DAER staff, friends and students gathered at the shore of lake Como to enjoy an afternoon of music, food and even sea plane flights.
From 17 to 19 July, our Gabriella Gaias and Simeng Huang attended the 10th International Workshop on Satellite Constellations and Formation Flying, hosted at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. Gabriella presented a new tool for spaceborne navigation systems based only on angular observations, and Simeng proposed an efficient strategy for the de-orbiting of large constellations.
Davide Menzio, from the COMPASS team, is carrying out a research period at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he will increase his “on the field” experience and improve the existing tools with the latest developments of his research on trajectory design and optimization.
