A practical analytical framework for precise relative motion in low Earth orbits is outlined in a paper authored by Gabriella Gaias and Camilla Colombo from the COMPASS team.
Prof. Willer Gomes dos Santos, from the Space Center (CEI) of the Brazilian Aeronautics Institute of Technology (ITA), delivered a seminar this Monday, 17 Feburary 2020, at PoliMi’s Department of Aerospace Science and Technology. In the seminar, he gave an overview of the present and future small satellite projects of the CEI.
Matteo Romano successfully defended his PhD thesis “Orbit propagation and uncertainty modelling for planetary protection compliance verification” at Politecnico di Milano, to be awarded the degree of Doctor.
The COMPASS team presented its research about “Sustainable Space for Smart Life” to students from Stendhal Elementary School in an interactive lecture aimed to inspire the young scientists of the future.
Mr. Jean-Sébastien Ardaens from DLR/GSOC delivered a seminar this Thursday, 19 December 2019, at PoliMi’s Department of Aerospace Science and Technology. Invited by the COMPASS project, he discussed about recent developments and on-orbit experiments on angles-only relative navigation in low Earth orbit.
Davide Menzio, from the COMPASS team, was awarded with the Ermenegildo Zegna Founder’s scholarship and extended his research period at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory until January 2020, where he will increase his “on the field” experience and improve the existing tools with the latest developments of his research on trajectory design and optimization.
Kindly hosted by Dr. Brandon Jones and Dr. Ryan Russel, Camilla and Stefan gave a seminar at the University of Texas on 13 December. They presented the COMPASS project with a focus on space debris and its modelling.
Stefan and Camilla of the COMPASS group attended the first International Orbital Debris Conference (IOC) in Christmassy Sugarland, TX, USA. They presented the new tools their team developed for optimising collision avoidance manoeuvres and estimating the evolution and implications of on-orbit fragmentation clouds.
