Prof. Baojun Pang, from the Harbin Institute of Technology (China), visited Politecnico di Milano to meet the COMPASS group. He delivered a seminar on the space debris environment, showcasing the destructive power of space debris and recapping assistants on the latest updates of the Space Debris Environment Engineering Model (SDEEM 2019).
An article presenting parts of the research conducted in the COMPASS group is being published in the Advances in Space Research journal. The paper shows how to improve the accuracy of semi-analytically propagated orbits – especially highly eccentric ones – perturbed by atmospheric drag.
The Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) was meeting in Rome for the 37th time to discuss the space debris issue. Bringing in the expertise of the COMPASS group, Stefan was participating within the ASI delegation.
The 12th IAA Small Satellites for Earth Observation Symposium took place from 5 to 10 May in Berlin. Cristiano Contini and Camilla Colombo were awarded the second prize as best student paper with their work “Attitude and orbital dynamics fine coupling for high area-to-mass Satellites”. A great success for COMPASS team, PoliMi and DAER!
Last Saturday, May 4, citizens across Europe had a very special appointment at the annual Open Day of the European Institutions. The COMPASS team could not miss this change to show the general public how EU/ERC-funded research changes their lives for the better, approaching visitors to the benefits and challenges of space use and exploration.
The annual Open Day of the European Institutions is a unique opportunity to learn about what the European Union does for its citizens. This year, the COMPASS team will take part in the event at the ERC headquarters in Brussels.
Dr. Yang Yang from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology visited the COMPASS team and held a seminar at the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology.
The COMPASS team participated to the CanSat Italy competition as part of the judging commission.
