PhD Candidate Xiaodong Lu attended the 2024 AAS/AIAA Astrodynamics Specialists Conference and presented his work entitled “Analytical optimisation of post mission disposal maneuvers towards an earth re-entry with averaged dynamics models”.
Constellation-servicing active debris removal (ADR) is a potential solution to deal with failed constellation satellites. A new Open Access paper from Adrián Barea and Hodei Urrutxua from URJC and Juan Luis Gonzalo and Camilla Colombo from Politecnico di Milano proposes a constraint programming-based framework for preliminary ADR mission analysis.
PhD candidates Martina Rusconi and Xiaodong Lu from the COMPASS group took part in the 29th International Symposium on Space Flight Dynamics […]
How to deorbit spacecrafts efficiently to guarantee the sustainability of the space environment? Last week Xiaodong Lu presented an approach to design the end-of-life disposal for spacecrafts at I-CELMEC Conference.
How to enhance end-of-life deorbiting by using orbit perturbations? Check this out in the Open Access paper by Simeng Huang, Camilla Colombo, Elisa Maria Alessi, Yang Wang and Zhili Hou
Can we predict the long-term disposal of satellites in highly elliptical orbits? Do they pose a risk at re-entry? Check the latest article in the Journal of Space Safety Engineering of our student Christian Fusaro, with Mirko Trisolini and Camilla Colombo to find out!

Mirko Trisolini from COMPASS participated to the 5th International Space Debris Re-entry Workshop organised by ESA, presenting his work on the re-entry and disposal of GEO satellites on resonant trajectories.
The long-term stability of shuttercock-like solar sails is studied in a paper authored by Narcís Miguel and Camilla Colombo from the COMPASS team.
COMPASS participated in the 7th Satellites End of Life Workshop, organized by CNES in Paris, France.
