Planetary protection compliance analysis is a computationally intensive task. It can be seen as a direct application of orbital uncertainty propagation in the high-fidelity environment. Massive parallelisation capabilities exist, although the accuracy requirements usually demand either intense programming effort or expensive hardware architecture.
Alessandro Masat has been awarded by NVIDIA a high-performance graphics card and further professional support, under the framework of NVIDIA’s Applied Research Accelerator program. These resources will be used to advance the software and algorithms used in the field, to understand how to optimally use and exploit this emerging computing technology, developing ad-hoc algorithms and software not requiring excessively expensive hardware infrastructures.
