Being Italy’s leading academic institution in aerospace engineering, Politecnico di Milano has many ongoing and past projects with the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI). As a testament of this long relation, and a declaration of intentions for increased collaboration in the future, the new president of ASI Giorgio Saccoccia visited PoliMi’s Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DAER) this Thursday.
Mr Saccoccia first met with the department’s faculty, discussing common points of interest between academia and the space agency. Afterwards he toured the DAER’s labs, where he learned about some of the cutting-edge research activities currently underway. The COMPASS team, lead by prof. Camilla Colombo, showcased our virtual reality tools for outreach activities, aimed at raising awareness about the environmental impact of space operations, the dangers of space debris, and the countless services provided by satellites in our daily lives.
