Davide Menzio’s research stay at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Davide Menzio at JPL

Davide Menzio, from the COMPASS team, is spending the last part of his Ph.D. in a visiting period at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he will increase his “on the field” experience and apply the expertise acquired during its research activity on trajectory design and optimisation at the Politecnico di Milano.

Davide is joining the Outer Planet Mission Analysis (392M) section, where he is working under the supervision of Dr. Stefano Campagnola to extend the knowledge about inclined flybys in the circular restricted three body problem through the spatial flyby map. This will allow to gain new insights on transition of flyby design between the two- and three-body dynamical systems and to identify different families of resonant orbits. Possible applications of Davide’s work cover the tour design of Europa Clipper mission in its journey to uncover the mystery of the oceanic world of the Galilean moon and the construction of the endgame with high latitude landing site.
