Daniel and Juan Felipe are joining the COMPASS Team!

We’re excited to welcome two new PhD candidates to the COMPASS Lab at Politecnico di Milano: Daniel and Juan Felipe!

Daniel brings a strong background in aerospace engineering, having earned his master’s degree from the Technical University of Braunschweig in 2022. Before joining us, he worked as a Space Situational Awareness (SSA) engineer at OKAPI:Orbits. At COMPASS, his research will focus on software development to enhance the THEMIS tool, with particular attention to its application in the GEO region. He will also explore the use of the THEMIS index and contribute to the estimation of overall space capacity.

Juan Felipe joins the team with a diverse academic path, holding a double bachelor’s degree in Physics and Electronic Engineering from Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia), followed by a master’s in Astrophysics and Cosmology from the University of Padova. His work will center on orbital neighborhood awareness, analyzing the effects of in-orbit fragmentation and developing strategies for effective space traffic management in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

Welcome to both Daniel and Juan Felipe: we’re thrilled to have you on board and can’t wait to see where your research will take us!
