The Politecnico di Milano is coordinator of the European CRADLE (Collecting Asteroid-Orbiting Samples) project.
The project, carried out in collaboration with JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, Università degli Studi di Padova, and D-Orbit aims to investigate novel mission concepts for sample collection without having to land or touch down.

Camilla Colombo and Andrea Muciaccia from COMPASS group attended the ESA Space Debris Risk Assessment and Mitigation Analysis Workshop, held in Darmstadt, Germany on 23-24 June 2022. Camilla Colombo presented the ongoing work on risk assessment and mitigation activities at Politecnico di Milano.
Dr. Mirko Trisolini, from the COMPASS group, is carrying out a research period of 9 months at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to continue the research for the MSCA Individual Fellowship “CRADLE”. At JAXA, he will increase his experience and knowledge on asteroid exploration and sample collection, working in alongside experts from the Hayabusa2 mission.
The ESA’s Living Planet Symposium is one the biggest Earth observation conferences in the world, playing a fundamental role in advancing our understanding of how our planet works and how it is being affected by climate change. The COMPASS group participated to the Living Planet Symposium 2022, held in Bonn, Germany on 23–27 May 2022.
Marco Nugnes, from the COMPASS team, is spending six months of his PhD at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory under the Visiting Student Research Program (JVSRP), where he will work on his PhD research on low-thrust trajectory optimisation using the technique of the differential dynamic programming.
The 6th European Space Debris modelling, and Remediation workshop took place this week in Milan, organised by @Politecnico di Milano and @Centre National D’Etudes Spatiales (CNES).
